PRA Celebrates Ohio Hospital Price Transparency Law Taking Effect

Today, PatientRightsAdvocate.org (PRA) released the following statement regarding the implementation of Ohio’s new hospital price transparency law, which was signed by Governor Mike DeWine on January 2, 2025:

"Today marks the beginning of an exciting new era for every Ohio healthcare consumer. It is now the law that every hospital must post upfront prices in dollars and cents for all services. Actual prices will protect Ohioans from overcharges and hidden fees and will promote a competitive marketplace to lower costs for everyone. We thank the legislative architects of this law, Rep. Ron Ferguson and Rep. Tim Barhorst, for their passion and tenacity on behalf of Ohio patients in making today's implementation possible.

“We urge the Ohio Department of Health to closely monitor hospital compliance and enforce the law's transparency requirements to the maximum extent.  And, to every Ohio patient: If you receive a surprise hospital bill, we encourage you to bring it to the attention of your state representative and senator immediately. Systemwide price transparency in Ohio – a culmination of years of hard work, debate, and advocacy – will only be successful with persistent accountability and enforcement."

On the eve of the law going into effect, PRA co-hosted a press conference with Ohio state legislators and other price transparency supporters in the Ohio Statehouse to tout the law’s benefits to all Ohio patients
